Four new businesses moving to South Boston’s Innovation District

Are you ready for the Tea Party?  The original Tea Party?

The newest (yet oldest) addition to Fort Point Channel is the museum commemorating the event that sparked the American Revolution- the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.  The original ships first arrived in 1773 in Griffin’s Wharf (now Congress and Purchase Streets…but these days the Channel is as close as you can get).  The second version came in 1973 (but went up in lightning flames in 2001) to return bigger and better than ever in 2012!

We’re pretty sure this is the only floating museum with an elevator in the world, and if that isn’t cool enough, the Museum offers “the 17th century meeting the 21st century.”  You’ll enjoy a theatre, life-like experience of the events surrounding the Tea Party.  One of the tea chests from 1773 (239 years old) will be back in the Museum.  Speaking of tea, tea sommelier, Bruce Richardson, will be Tea Master of the Museum’s Tea Room.  (We hope he’ll be offering classes, too.)

The story is incredible, a true engineering feat.  Check out the website to see the official countdown to the opening, the live webcams of construction in Boston and in Gloucester, and stay tuned for when the ships navigate the Channel to dock at the Museum.

Touring the ID

Warmer weather accompanied a great group from Northeastern University and its Center for Research Innovation.  They wanted to see what all the hubbub is about, and boy were they in for a treat.

Scott from MassChallenge shared his love for Northeastern co-op students, AND the amazing eco-system at 1 Marina Park Drive.  We left convinced that if you’re a startup, do yourself a favor, and apply to MassChallenge.  It’s the best school for startups…how neat is that?

Next Step Living, part of a growing cluster of green tech companies, is expanding both in square feet and staff!  Since 2008 Next Step Living has ensured energy efficiency at home.  According to its President and CFO, “our employees love the public transportation options, the facilities work for our trucks, and the clean tech community is strong here.”  We agree.  It is so close to South Station and the Silver Line.  It just plain works.
