The Innovation District Welcome Home Challenge to launch today

This past May, Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced a partnership with Spencer Trask Collaborative Innovations (STCI) to create a $25,000 challenge for startups to move or expand in Boston’s Innovation District. The Innovation District Welcome Home Challenge, which begins today, invites businesses to compete for this funding by promoting their business or business plan on a web-based forum.  Entrepreneurs, innovators, stakeholders, the general public, funders and organizations are encouraged to vote on these submissions, supporting those they think are a best fit for the Innovation District.

“We are creating a hub of knowledge, creativity and inspiration – an Innovation District where new ideas, new businesses and more jobs will come to life,” said Mayor Menino.  “This partnership and business competition with STCI will add to our momentum, helping support a start-up company to create jobs in Boston now.”

Boston will be the first city – and second government entity – to use this platform. The winning submission will receive a $25,000 prize to locate in the Innovation District; if that business is already in the Innovation District, the funding can be used for that business to grow.
